Madison, WI – Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) issued the following statement after Senate Bill 56, which would allow Superior Water, Light & Power, Wisconsin’s only private water utility, to be able to access federal funds to provide principal forgiveness for lead service line replacements:
“Superior Water, Light & Power is the only privately owned community water system in Wisconsin, which means its customers are currently excluded from the financial assistance available to other water utility customers across the state. As a result, residents of Superior miss out on critical support meant to reduce the cost of replacing lead service lines.
By signing this bill into law, the company and its customers will save a substantial amount of money on service line replacement expenses. I urge Governor Evers to honor his commitment to removing lead pipes and sign this bill so that the people of Superior can finally access the support they deserve.”
SB 56 now heads to the governor’s desk.
