William R. “Bill” Schaper, age 82, of webster, passed away on august 19, 2019.

Bill was born in matteson, illinois to parents, lucille and alfred schaper.   He is preceded in death by his mother, lucille schaper; his father, arthur schaper; brother, daniel schaper; uncle, frank schaper; aunt, josephine schaper; and cousin, audrey (william) bigelow. 

Bill is survived by his nephew, peter schaper and his children: steven schaper and julie schaper furgason; steven’s child, victoria schaper; and julie schaper furgason’s children: nigel, warren and rhys furgason.   Bill is also survived by his neice, kim schaper; and his sister-in-law, nona schaper; cousins: bruce, allison and brad bigelow; extended family, jerry and kim stypula and their children and grand-children.

Bill was drafted into the united states army 5th  infentry division and served from   1960 to 1962.   Bill entered the army in chicago, illinois and his last duty was at fort carson, colorado.   He was a food service person in the service.   Before he was drafted, he worked at ford motor company in chicago heights, illinois and after he was honorably dischaged he returned to this job.   When bill retired, he used to like to say he threw his watch away.   Bill retired to hertel, wisconsin and never looked back.

Bill loved his independent lifestyle that included hunting, fishing and spending time with his friends and family.   He was well known for his (sometimes colorful) stories and was seldom without a one liner.   Bill got great joy from making people laugh and if he thought he shocked you it was even better.   Mischief was always just below the surface.

Bill loved lots:   he loved a good meal and if fresh fried fish was on the menu, he was extra happy. He loved cookies, children, animals, the outdoors, old movies, playing music and listening to music.   Bill loved to get together with family and friends (most recently his angels as he would say from the hearts of gold nursing agency, he loved the ladies that helped with his cares so very much).   HE Loved to tease people and if he could get a zinger in, he never missed the opprotunity.   Bill just mostly loved people and he is going to be dearly missed.

A celebration of life will be held on august 31, 2019 from 11:00 – 1:00 pm at the sand lake elders nutritional site.   This is located near the tribal center in hertel wisconsin.

Interment will follow at viola lake cemetery  with full military honors commencing at the gravesite at 2:00 pm.
Arrangements have been entrusted to swedberg-taylor funeral home in webster.
