In Memory of Wanda Surman


January 8, 1923 - September 24, 2021

Wanda Surman, 98, of Cumberland died, September 24, 2021 at United Pioneer Home.

She was born January 8, 1923 in Daugavpils, Latvia to Stanislav and Ana (Evanoska) Kurtish.

She was married in Heidelberg, Germany on February 16, 1946 to Stephen Surman who preceded her in death on February 1, 2016. Stephen was stationed in Heidelberg with the U.S. Army. Wanda immigrated to the United States in 1946 and became a citizen while Stephen was stationed in New York.

Wanda and Stephen moved to Duluth in November of 1946 to live with his family They later moved to Hibbing Minnesota and spent many years enjoying their family and the beauty of the northern lakes camping with the family. In 1963 the family moved to Fargo North Dakota. After the girls grew up they moved to Port Charlotte Florida and found many dear friends and enjoyed the Florida weather. In 2005 after a terrible hurricane hit their community they decided to move back north and decided to settle in Cumberland where they enjoyed the community and could share their lives with their families. Family was the most important part of Wanda's life. Getting together with all the grand and greatgrandchildren would gave her the most joy. She will be greatly missed by all of us. She was deeply loved.

She is survived by her three daughters, Shirley (Dennis) Crowe of Luck; Kathleen (Salvatore) Bizzarro of Colorado Springs, CO; Cynthia (Ira) Klein of Sarasota, FL; four grandsons, Jesse (Amy) Crowe, Forrest (Sherry) Crowe, Christopher (Becky) Crowe & Giancarlo (Martyna) Bizzarro; five great grandchildren, Brianna, Emily, Sophia, Eloise, and Ezra; one great great grandchild, Emberlynn Dosch; sister, Irene Grinwald of Latvia; nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Duluth, MN.

Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland is serving the family.
