In Memory of Walter Foust
Walter 'Walt' A. Foust, 83, of Cumberland passed away July 27, 2021
He was born July 4, 1938 in Rhinelander, WI to Oliver and Ruby (Armstrong) Foust.
He was the 7th of 8 children.
Walt attended Prairie Farm High School where he excelled in basketball, baseball, and football. One of his favorite memories was playing in the conference championship game to go to the State finals. After graduation, he joined the Army and served in Germany with the 3rd Medical Battalion. After returning to the states he settled in Minneapolis for a while and married Joyce (Bruns) Foust and together they had four children. They moved to California for 3 years where he enjoyed going to the dragstrip on Sundays and racing his hotrod. The family moved back to Barron and later divorced. On March 21, 1981, Walt married Florence (Kallsen) Foust and they made their home in Cumberland. They shared a love of dancing and his daughters remember him as an excellent dancer. He worked for the Barron County Highway Department for many years until he retired. Walt was known for his outstanding gardens and he was an excellent cook. He loved to can vegetables, spend time in his garden, watch John Wayne movies, and Packer and Brewer games. He was an outdoorsman and looked forward to opportunities to go hunting and fishing.
Walter is survived by his brother and sister: Kenneth (Gale) Foust and Racheal (Foust) Smith; His four children: Candi (Steve) Steiger, Scott (Lisa) Foust, Brenda (Kevin) Nelson, and Steve (Kris) Foust; one stepdaughter: Angel (Cathy McCulley) Benes; eight grandchildren: Jennifer, Sarah, Racheal, Callie, Miranda, Tanner, Emily, and Katie; 15 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents: Oliver and Ruby Foust; wife: Florence; brothers: Grant, and Edward; sisters: Bertha, Silvia, Inez, and 2 great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, July 31, 2021, at First United Methodist Church-Cumberland with Pastor Mike Brubaker officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service with burial following the service at Lakeside Cemetery.
