March 8, 1943 - December 25, 2024

Virjean Ann (Klava) Flakne passed away peacefully on Christmas morning, surrounded by her family.

Virjean Ann Flakne was born in Argyle, MN on March 8th, 1943, to Emil and Theodosia Klava. She had 4 siblings, Cyril, Emil, Gary, and Carolyn. She grew up in Crookston, MN with her family and enjoyed reading, school, and going to church. She finished her last year of high school in 1961 and graduated from Mount St. Benedict to help her decide if she wanted to become a nun. She made the decision to attend Mayville State College and graduated in 1965 with a teaching degree. She went on to teach in Montana, Fischer, MN 1967 (1st grade), Gary, MN 1972, Bejou, MN, and St. Michael’s Catholic School in Mahnomen, MN (2nd Grade). On June 15th, 1968 she married the love of her life, Douglas Edward Flakne at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Crookston, MN. They settled in Bejou, MN to farm and raised four children together. Virjean’s focus was on her family, raising her children to love the Lord, love each other, and take care of the land. Together they lived on the farm until 1998 when she and Doug moved to Amery, WI. It was there where she and Doug enjoyed their only grandchildren at the time, taking care of their home, and many flower beds on the property. Virjean worked at Chet Johnson’s Drug Store for 15 years, before retiring in 2015. It was then that she and Doug were able to spend time together before his death on April 30th, 2021.

Virjean is survived by her loving children; Amy Flakne (Richard Shelby), Anita (Kelly) Padden, Renee, and Chad (Christina) Flakne. She also has 7 grandchildren: Derek and Jared Shelby, Breck and Connor Padden, Broden and Lauren Flakne, and Reed Johnson. Virjean was preceded in death by her husband Doug, her parents, and siblings Carolyn, Cyril, Gary, and Emil.

Virjean will be truly missed by her family, friends, and her community. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and love of family and the Lord will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
