In Memory of Thomas Havlicek

March 17, 1945 - January 10, 2019

Thomas John Havlicek, 73, died Thursday, January 10 at his home in Minong, WI.  He was born March 17, 1945 to George and Mary (Hady) Havlicek in Watertown, WI, attended St. Henry’s School and graduated from Watertown High School in 1963.  He attended Waukesha Technical College and graduated in 1971 as a journeyman electrician.

He married Linda Reimer on January 7, 1967 in Watertown, WI.  In 1975, they moved to Rice Lake, WI where they spent the next 30 years raising their children.  Tom operated the Bungalow Bar and over the years promoted many activities on the lake including snowmobile racing, a softball tournament and stock car ice racing.

In 2004, they sold the bar and moved to Minong, WI, where Tom went to work for a wood stove company and later owned Wood Stoves & More.  Tom loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and watching birds.  He prided himself on his ability to identify many bird species just by hearing their song.  He was an avid Packer, Badger and Brewer fan.

Over the years, Tom served as President of the Watertown Conservation Club, President of the Barron County Tavern League, Trustee at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, and Supervisor on the Minong Town Board.

Playing music was his soul. He played in many bands over the years from The Ramchargers and The Wildwoods in Watertown, to The Bungalow Express, Revision, and Golden Rocker in Rice Lake and finally Second Time Around Band in Minong.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of 52 years, 2 sons Michael (Patti) of Sun Prairie, WI and James (Lisa) of Green Bay, WI and a daughter Karen (Mike) Helgeson of Green Bay, WI; 4 grandsons: Ben, Alex, Jack and Ryan; 4 sisters: Helen (Bob) Smith of Altoona, WI, Jeanne (David) Auerbach of Napa, CA, Geralyn Havlicek of Richmond, CA, Barb Brueggen (Bob Fanning) of Cameron, WI and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Mary & Walt Miner.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Minong, WI on Saturday, January 19, 2018 at noon with Father James Kinney officiating.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon.
