In Memory of Stephen A. Lonien


September 25, 1946 - April 30, 2024

Stephen Anthony Lonien, 77 of Turtle Lake, passed away on Tuesday, April 30 th , 2024 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul surrounded by his children. He was born in Mille Lacs, Minnesota on September 25, 1946, the son of Dale and Agnes (Tschida) Lonien. He spent his childhood in Milaca, Minnesota with his younger brother before moving to Arden Hills, Minnesota where he graduated from Mounds View High School in 1964.

He fell in love with Sandra Rose Johnson after meeting at a New Year’s Eve celebration and later settled down in a country home in Amery where together they raised five children. He enjoyed his travels all over the United States as a truck driver. Above all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and always emphasized how important family was. He forever talked about how lucky he was to have such wonderful children and grandchildren and spoke so proudly of each of them. He enjoyed classic cars, playing pool, cooking, sports, listening to music, riding bike, crossword puzzles, visiting with friends, and picnics and holidays with his family.

He is survived by his children James Johnson, Nicholas Lonien, Melissa (Thomas) Fowler, Anthony Lonien, and Melanie Lonien (Chris Bugg); 8 grandchildren, Arianna, Hunter, Chris Jr. Nova, Niah, Anokii, Koya, Myla; nieces Lisa Lonien, Lori (Dan) Harris, nephews Dana Jr., and Wayne Cusick; and many other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his spouse Sandra, brother Dana Lonien, and parents Dale and Agnes.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Skinner Funeral Home of Turtle Lake. We invite anyone who knew him to attend, share a story, and remember his wonderful life. Remarks and closing prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m.

Skinner Funeral Home of Turtle Lake has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
