In Memory of Stanley Walczak


April 9, 1921 - December 1, 2020

Stanley Walczak, 99, of Chetek, passed away on Tuesday, December 01, 2020 at his home with his loving family at his side.  Stanley was born on April 9, 1921 in Rusk County, Wisconsin the son of Michael and Wladislava “Lotty” (Jaworski) Walczak.

Stanley attended school in the Bear Lake area and then worked at the family farm near Potato Lake.  He then spent a few years working in Chicago until he enlisted in the United States Army in December of 1942.  He served in the army until November of 1945. During this time he toured in northern France which included the Battle of the Bulge, also touring in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.

After he was honorably discharged from the military he returned to northern Wisconsin and then attended barber school in Chicago. He worked as a barber in Rice Lake and Chetek and the opened his own barber shop on Main Street in Chetek.

On April 30, 1947 he married Selma Marie Purintun. He worked as a barber until 1968 and then he used his real-estate and appraisal training to work for the state of Wisconsin in Wausau, WI. He retired in 1988 and then moved back to Barron County where he lived out his retirement.

He was a member of the Chetek United Methodist Church, Chetek American Legion and Chetek VFW.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, picking wild mushrooms and watching wild animals. He will be dearly missed.

Stanley leaves to celebrate his memory: wife, Selma Walczak, Chetek, WI, son, Stanley Walczak (Carolyn Senty), Hayward, WI; son, Terry (Kathleen) Walczak, Rosemount, MN; son, Kim (Tracy) Walczak, Rice Lake, WI; seven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Wladislava Walczak, sisters, Regina (Martin) Oldenberg, Betty (Matt) Nowiki and Adeline (Edward) Tadel, brother, Witolt “Veto” (Helen) Walczak and a great granddaughter, Brittany Steinmetz.

The Private Family Funeral Service for Stanley will be held at the Chetek United Methodist Church.  Pastor Chris VanBeek will officiate. He will be laid to rest at the Northern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Spooner with full military honors following the service. Pallbearers will be Stanley’s family members.

The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home of Chetek has been entrusted with arrangements.
