Stanley Arthur Peer, 87, went to his heavenly home on March 18, 2024 with his wife and all eight children by his side. Stan was born 3/9/1937 to Alonzo & Mary (Richter) Peer as the youngest of four children at his farm home in Cumberland, WI. He attended primary school in Pipe Lake and high school in Turtle Lake. He was lucky enough to marry his high school sweetheart Betty Jane Merth on 7/13/1957 and together they were blessed with eight children.

Stan enjoyed playing, coaching, and watching baseball. When the town of Cushing needed a pitcher, the First Bank of Grantsburg found a job for Stan as a banker at their Cushing branch. After helping to build a new Field Of Dreams in Cushing, Stan and his two brothers (Al & Arnie Peer) loved pitching for the Cushing Tigers and helped to win the state tournament in 1962. He was a banker for over 40 years in Cushing and Grantsburg in what eventually became US Bank. During his banking years, he also sold insurance and learned to do taxes to help the farmers he served. He continued doing taxes even after retirement as a volunteer for AARP for over 15 years.

After moving to Grantsburg, Stan became a loyal Grantsburg fan and made his pitch to help build a strong Grantsburg community through his deep faith and his work with the County & Village Economic Development Corporations, the Grantsburg Hospital Board and Foundation, the Rotary Club, the Grantsburg Village Board, the Knights of Columbus, the I.C. Catholic Church and many other organizations throughout the years. He helped facilitate the building of a community swimming pool, a town fitness center, the hospital addition, and helped to save the Grantsburg Golf Course. He had great pride in Grantsburg and all it had to offer and he and Betty were dedicated servants to the community.

After helping to develop industry in the community and county, Stan also found education as a link to the future. Stan passionately served on the Grantsburg school board for 16 years, Grantsburg School Board President for 13 years and even served as President of the Wisconsin State School Board Association. He was proud of helping to create a vision for the Grantsburg School District as one of the finest campuses in the northwest area.

Stan also took time to enjoy fishing (especially the Al Peer Memorial Bass Tournament), hunting, playing cards, traveling and spending time with his family. He rarely went anywhere without finding someone he knew or could find a connection to. He made fast friends wherever he went and was known for staying at any gathering until there was no one left to talk to.

Stan will be greatly missed by Betty, his wife of 66 years, and their children Greg (Cindy) Peer, Jan (Ron) Wickboldt, Dave (Lisa) Peer, Cindy (Randy) Vincent, Jeff (Lorraine) Peer, Colleen (Rich) Morgan, Missy (Jason) Peterson, and Becky (Matt) Berg. He is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren (and hopefully many more to come!)

Stan is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Elaine (Ed) Papenfuss, Al (Marion) Peer, and Arnie (Marilyn) Peer. He is also preceded in death by grandson Brandon Peer and great-grandson Jaxon Larrabee.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 22, 2024 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located on Hwy 70 in Grantsburg. Visitation will be held at the church before the service from 9-11 am. The burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery with pallbearers Scott Peer, Kyle Wickboldt, Heavenly pallbearer Brandon Peer, Kara Meagher, Brock Peer, Kendra Sievers, Jarrod Peterson and Mitchel Berg, and honorary pallbearers are the grandchildren with the luncheon at T-Dawgs immediately following the funeral.

The family would especially like to thank St. Croix Hospice and the Eagle Ridge Senior Living Facility for taking such excellent care of Stan during his final days.
