In Memory of Orville Jones
June 4, 1940 - February 20, 2017
Orville Gene Jones, age 76, of Spooner, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Spooner Health. He was born June 4, 1940 in Milwaukee, WI. He was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Melton on April 26, 1959 in Stone Lake, WI.
Orville proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps for eight years and with the United States Airforce for over 13 years. He served overseas in Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War as a jet engine mechanic with the Airforce. After retiring from military service, Orville hauled mail for the U.S. Postal Service, was a taxi driver for the railroad and delivered propane. He loved camping and fishing, especially his fishing trips to Canada and Alaska. He enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Orville was very handy and took many short periods of leave from the military to build his own house and garage.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Spooner; his children, Laurie Percy of Shell Lake, Susan (Chuck) Spaulding of Shell Lake, Orville (Shelly) Jones Jr. of Spooner and James (Char) Jones of Rice Lake; twenty grandchildren; and thirty great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Wahlstrom; his mother, Lorraine Marie (Erlichmann) Bertschy; step-father, Daniel Bertschy; and a son-in-law, Ed Percy.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Spooner Funeral Home, 306 Rusk Street in Spooner where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service. Pastor John Sahlstrom will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
