In Memory of Shirley R. Hover


November 8, 1931 - January 18, 2023

Shirley Rae (Ormson) Hover, age 91, of Barron passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Dove Healthcare Assisted Living in Barron.

Shirley was born on November 8, 1931 in Barron to Harry O. Ormson and Grace L (Kuhnley) Ormson. She was raised in the City of Barron, baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church; graduated from Barron High School in 1950. While attending high school, she lettered in basketball. She worked at the Farmer Store part-time while attending high school and full-time until 1956.

Shirley married Allen L. Hover on June 17, 1956 in Barron at the First Lutheran Church. They lived in Chicago from 1956 until 1958, where son Cameron was born in March of 1958. They moved to Minneapolis in the fall of 1958, where son Lance was born in April, 1959. In June, 1960, they moved to Brooklyn Center, MN in a new housing (residential) development, where she and Allen lived for 40 years. Daughter Darcy was born in March of 1963. Shirley worked as an aide at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church Preschool in Brooklyn Center for many years, until her children finished elementary school. She then worked as a volunteer and as a paid employee at the Brooklyn Park Historical Farm for 15 years.

They moved back to her hometown of Barron in the fall of 2000.

Her interests were: Traveling - which included trips to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Scotland, Wales, England, Alaska, and around the USA; decorating, reading, entertaining and church activities. She loved people.

Shirley is survived by her children, Cameron Hover (Etta Huff), Lance (Karen) Hover and Darcy (Mark) Korte; grandchildren, Joshua Hover, Leah (Zac) Preiss, Dayle Ann (Austin) Rhinehart & Kelsey (Darrell) Hall; great-grandchildren, Kinsey Hover, Aiden Preiss, Harper Preiss, Kennady Hall and Carter Hall; brother and sister, Charlotte (Bill) Bohmer and Duane Ormson (Judy Spiehs).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Grace; husband, Al (Rusty); brothers, Dean and Al Ormson; sister-in-laws, Dorothy and Mary Ann Ormson.

A funeral service for Shirley Hover will be Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Barron with Rev. Ron Mathews officiating. Visitation will be Friday, January 27, 2023 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at First Lutheran Cemetery on County Road T.

Arrangements are being handled by Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron.
