In Memory of Shirley Gehrman
Shirley Marcella (nee Luhman) Gehrman passed from this life to eternal life on November 17th, 2020 at 90 years old.
Shirley was born on July 31st, 1930 in Deer Park, WI to parents Hugo and Neomi (nee Anderson) Luhman. Firstborn child of five, Shirley was the older sister to four brothers. She was a long-time resident of Deer Park and graduated from New Richmond High School in 1948. After graduation she moved to St. Paul and was employed at the St. Paul Book and Stationary Company and later 3M. She met Milton “Hank” Gehrman on a train when traveling between St. Paul and Deer Park. She took him up on his offer to write letters while he served in the U.S. Navy. They married on March 10th, 1951 and went on to raise six children. Shirley was a life-long member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Deer Park, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and served as the Ladies Aid Chairman. Shirley had a passion to serve others and cared for residents of St. Croix Nursing Home by providing guardianship for those without. Shirley will always be remembered as a devout Christian, fabulous cook, avid Green Bay Packer fan, adventurous traveler, light-footed dancer, lover of Halloween, green-thumbed gardener and most importantly the matriarch to five generations of the “Hank and Shirley Gehrman family”. Family was a priority and it was seldom she missed a birthday, anniversary or special occasion. She enjoyed attending school programs and sporting events and was often found snuggling a new great-grandbaby. Shirley will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband Hank Gehrman, parents Hugo and Neomi Luhman, brothers Leroy and John Luhman, sister-in-law Mary Luhman and grandchildren Stacey Robb, John Roberts and Kari Roberts.
Shirley is survived by her brothers Alvin (Lorraine) Luhman and Robert (Patty McAnally) Luhman, her children Gary (Nancy Graham), Bruce (Kathy), Sally, Paul (Bonnie), Keith (Laura), and Dean (Michele), 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
A private ceremony will be held for immediate family.
