In Memory of Sheryl L. Flatten
Sheryl L. Flatten was born on February 12, 1949 in Stanley, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Anita (Hoffman) Ladwig. She grew up on the family farm for 8 years in Stanley, where she was baptized in the Christian faith. For the next 7 years, the family lived in Chippewa Falls, WI where she was confirmed in the Christian faith. Her family then moved to Amery, WI in 1964 when she was a sophomore in high school. At this time is when she met the love of her life, Robert L. Flatten Jr. On December 3, 1966, they were united in marriage and together they had 3 children. They lived in a cabin on Lake Wapo for 7 years and then built a house near Star Prairie, WI where they lived for 12 years. The family then moved to their current location on Bear Trap Lake, which they have resided for 38 years.
Sheryl was a homemaker but would also babysit for neighborhood kids. Later, once the grandkids were getting older, she took a job in the Amery School District as a Food Nutrition worker—a position she held for around 16 years. She was an active member of Little Falls Lutheran Church since 1980, where she taught Sunday School for many years and also helped in many other areas of the church. She liked to bake, tending to her flower beds, spending time with family, traveling, watching Jeopardy, and attending car shows with her husband in their 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. Sheryl also enjoyed a good Scrabble game or shaking dice with her family. Family was very important to her, and she cherished every moment with them.
Sheryl passed away on March 29, 2025 at the age of 76 at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving family members included her husband of 58 years, Robert; children, Michael (Bonnie), Brenda (Chip), and Ryan; grandchildren, Tyler (Danna), Kaylyn, and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Carsyn, Caitlynn, Marley, Lilliann, Mindy, and Jackson; siblings, John, Janet (Joseph), Paul (Jill), Lynn (Jeff), and Mark (Lorie); as well as other relatives and friends.
Her family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Adoray Home Hospice Care, especially Becca and Jen.
