In Memory of Shelvy Jean Matton
Shelvy Jean Matton,83, of Rice Lake, passed away March 24, 2022 in Rice Lake. She was born November 7, 1938 to Alfred and Dora (Reichert) Williams in Rice Lake.
Shelvy left school early to help with younger children in the family. She often talked about working in the rutabaga fields as a young woman. In 1960 she married Harold Matton who preceded her in death in 2018.
Shelvy blessed everyone around her with her embroidery. A perfectionist in her craft, she would inspect the work of others, and if the back was messy, would say ‘clean it up’. She loved the Green Bay Packers and on game day would always have her Packer shirt on. Later in life she loved doing wordsearch and other puzzles and was known for her large cookie jar collection. She loved children and cared for her kids, her grand kids and any other children that needed someone to love them until she got too weak to care for them.
Shelvy is survived by her children: Jean (Dennis) Dixon, Harold Jr. (Cindy Myhers) Matton, Henry (Rose Daniels) Matton; grandsons: Tony and Chris Matton; great-grandsons: Jaxon and Bentley Matton; siblings: Robert (Dorothy) Williams, Terry (Judy) Williams, Dwayne (Kim) Williams, Dawn (Bryan) Johnson, and Kathy Toufar; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Alfred and Dora Williams; husband: Harold Matton; sister: Bonnie Rae; and brothers: Steve and Raymond Williams.
Services will be held at 1 PM Friday, April 1 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rice Lake with Pastor Tamara Harder officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7pm on Thursday, March 31 at Skinner Funeral Home in Rice Lake and for one hour before the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be at Nora Cemetery.
