In Memory of Sharon K. Jorgensen

July 11, 1946 - December 18, 2024

Sharon Kay Jorgensen, age 78, of Altoona, WI died Wednesday, December 18, 2024 while at the Bloomer-Mayo Hospital Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy and brave struggle with heart and kidney disease. She was born to Baron and Lucy (Coons) Johnson on July 11, 1946. She lived her younger life in Almena where she formed many life-long friends and graduated from Barron High School, Class of 1964 – a group that she dearly loved. Sharon loved people and people loved her. It was one of her greatest assets and she took great pleasure in making people feel good about themselves. While Sharon did not have a large family, she dearly loved each and every one of us and took great pride in all of our accomplishments. Our hearts are broken that she is no longer with us, however, we take solace in the fact that she is no longer suffering and that God took her home to celebrate Christmas with Him.

Sharon was preceded in death by her baby brother: Ronnie B. Johnson, brother: Larry Johnson, parents: Baron & Lucy Johnson, father and mother-in-law: Harry and Mary Jorgensen, nephew and godson: Chad Dibble and her late husband: Vernon Kunkel. She is survived by her husband: James, daughters: Jana Freeman and Kristi Ayers, grandson: Michael Freeman (Laura) and granddaughter: Elizabeth (Casey) Saunders. Also surviving are her sister: Debbie (Gary) Dibble, sisters-in-law: Jackie Vermulen, Rebecca Hostetler (Julie Redpath), Kathleen Hostetler, Kathy Hostetler and Joyce Johnson (Mike), brothers-in-law: Dan (Lori) Hostetler and Robert (Barb) Jorgensen. Her extended family includes many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition, a very special great nephew, Connor T. White, who she lovingly called “My Little Punkinseed” and her beloved cat: Cookie. Sharon was honored to be included in the loving family of Uncle Leonard and Aunt Loris Becker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, December 27 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cameron with Father Chandra Ery officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Lunch will be prepared and served by the Knights of Columbus immediately following Mass in the parish hall. Interment of Sharon's ashes will be held next spring when we are all more able to share how her life and her faith touched us along our own life's journey. Sharon asked that in lieu of flowers we consider offering memorials to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Minneapolis/St. Paul Ronald McDonald House. The family wishes to offer our deepest gratitude to Sharon's medical teams at the Mayo Clinic who have worked so hard over the last few years keeping her comfortable and full of life. Thank you Dr. Calvin and your cardiology team and Dr. Kahn her nephrologist.
