In Memory of Scott Johnson
Scott Elwood Johnson (born June 2, 1957) died peacefully at his cabin on December 30, 2020, with his wife Judy, and his kitty, Toonces, by his side.
Scott was a devoted husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He cherished his family and friends. Scott’s greatest joy in life was making other people laugh. In his 14 year battle with cancer, he never lost hope or his sense of humor.
Scott loved snowmobiling, boating, fishing, playing in the ocean, traveling, and hanging out with his family and friends. One of his biggest passions was skiing and to watch him ski was watching poetry in motion.
Scott was born and raised in Duluth, MN, graduated from Duluth East High School in 1975, served in the Air National Guard for 8 years, obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth (UMD) in 1982, and his Master’s degree in Industrial Safety and Hygiene from UMD in 1993. Scott worked for Minnesota OSHA for 25 plus years as a safety consultant, before retiring in June 2020.
Scott is survived by his wife, Judy Marshall, sister Wendy (Kimball) Higgins, brother Brent (Gina Barnes) Johnson, sister Julie Johnson, sister Paige (Tobbie) Stager, beloved nephews, and nieces Jeffrey (Kenzie) Higgins, Benjamin (Ashley) Higgins, Samantha (Geoff Dolle) Johnson, Kodty Barnes, Audrey Johnson and Claira Stager.
Scott was preceded in death by his mother Mary (Gustafson) Johnson, his mom Sharon (Smith) Johnson, and his brother Gayle Holton.
Scott was a kind, gentle soul who lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed.
There will be a small memorial service for immediate family members and then a Celebration of Life in Scott’s honor later this spring, when it is safer to gather in big groups.
Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster.
