In Memory of Sara O. Seitz
Sara O. Seitz, age 92, of Hayward, WI passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at her home.
Sara Marett Bishop was born September 22, 1932, in Greenville, SC the daughter of Jerry and Sara “Montez” (Marett) Bishop.
Sara was raised by her parents until her mother passed when she was twelve years old. Sara moved to live with her extended family in North and South Carolina. She graduated from high school in Spartanburg, SC in 1950 and continued her education at Draughon’s Business College in Greenville, SC. On December 17, 1955, Sara was joined in marriage to Eldon Olsen in South Carolina. Eldon was commissioned in the Air Force and the family traveled extensively with his service. While stationed in Rabat Morocco for over two years, Sara was an Air Force wife and supported her husband by hosting numerous gatherings for dignitaries and officers. In 1972, Eldon and Sara moved to Hayward, WI and Sara began working for the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital in their business office. She would spend 18 years working with the hospital before her retirement. In 2002, Sara worked to form the volunteer program at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital and served as the volunteer coordinator for several years. On October 12, 1991, Sara married Richard Seitz in Hayward, WI. Sara was an active member of the Hayward Congregational Church and served as its moderator for several terms. She also served as a board member for Regional Hospice, Northwood New Life Resource Center and the Hospital Auxiliary. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking and reading.
Sara is survived by her three children, Mary Lou (Raymond) Harris of Hayward, WI, James (Cynthia) Olsen of Cave Creek, AZ, Nancy (William) Gilliard of Lakeland, GA; three stepchildren, Sharon (Gary) Birkenmeier of Eau Claire, WI, Kay (Howard) Sieh of Hayward, Douglas (Mary) Seitz of Hayward; eight grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; and many great grandchildren; cousin, Nancy Deanie (Joe) Woodie; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Eldon Olsen and Richard Sietz; son, John Olsen.
A memorial service celebrating Sara’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Spider Lake Church Main Street Campus with Pastor Gary Hilgendorf officiating. A time of gathering will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.
