In Memory of Sandra M. Johnson


February 8, 1940 - December 4, 2022

Sandra Marie Johnson Age 82, of Rice Lake, WI, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022 in Rice Lake.

Sandie was born on February 8, 1940 to Norman and Rose Hoel in Madison, WI where she was the third of five children.

Sandie graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1958 and then attended UW Madison for one year before attending Liz Waters School of Fashion. Sandie then worked for Macy’s in Milwaukee until she returned to Rhinelander to work at the Rhinelander Savings and Loan as a teller. In 1964, Sandie met Ronald I. Johnson at Minocqua Aqua Rama Days. She and Ron married on December 18, 1965. They moved to New Richmond, and proceeded to have two children — Laura and Kevin. Sandie worked at Dough Boy in the accounting department while living there. Ron and Sandie moved to Rice Lake in April of 1967. While living in Rice Lake Sandie worked at the Rice Lake Golf Course and the Needles Point and Framer’s Workshop where she gave knitting lessons. Sandie developed a love for golfing where she eventually earned 23 trophies, an eagle in 1995, and a “Hole in One” on August 12, 2009. Sandie later took a picture of her trophies and then donated them to the Special Olympics. Sandie also loved playing Bridge and at one point belonged to three Bridge clubs at the same time. Sandie enjoyed traveling with her Bridge clubs and enjoyed trips to New York, Boston, San Francisco and Mexico just to name a few. She also volunteered at Hilltop Elementary where she read to the children. Sandie was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Rice Lake, where she was a Deacon. Sandie also loved the water and riding in the pontoon. She was always up for a good time. She also belonged to the Rice Lake Curling Club for 23 years and loved to Bonspiel in different areas of the Midwest. Above all Sandie was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family and is known for her dedication to them.

Sandie was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; her parents, Norman and Rose; 2 sisters, Gwen and Barbara.

She leaves behind her daughter, Laura (Jauhn) Etlicher; a son, Kevin Johnson; 3 grandchildren, Chelsea, Camille and Carlee; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Sherry; a brother, Jeffrey; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at a later date.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake is assisting the family with the arrangements.
