In Memory of Ryley J. Holden


April 24, 1994 - March 31, 2022

Ryley John Holden, age 27, of Spooner, WI, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.

Ryley was born April 24, 1994, in Spooner, the son of Greg “Buzz” and Tami (Broadfoot) Holden.

Ryley graduated from Spooner High School and started working various construction jobs before enlisting in the Army National Guard, as part of the 950th Combat Engineer Company in route clearance. He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2014 and served for a total of five and a half years. In 2017 Ryley met the love of his life, McKayla at Jackpine Savage Days. The couple went on to get married on March 4, 2019 and have two beautiful children together.

Ryley was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed deer and bear hunting with his hounds and being part of the Dirty Shame Deer Camp. He loved horseback riding with his favorite horse, Belle, and camping out west. He enjoyed sports and always cheered on his Wisconsin teams. Ryley was a loving husband, father, and friend.

Ryley is survived by his wife, McKayla Holden; sons, John and Warren Holden; parents, Buzz and Tami Holden; brother, Sam Holden; parents-in-law, Deb and Kurt Proctor and Derrick and Sue Olson; special friends, John and Kim Solofra; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Buzz and Fern Holden; maternal grandparents, John and Donna Broadfoot; honorary grandparents, Richard and Pat Gilberg; uncle, David Holden; and aunt, Debbie McClure.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022, at the Spooner Wesleyan Church, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 5, at the Spooner Wesleyan Church at 12:30 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior. A burial with military honors will be held at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. followed by a reception at the Spooner Civic Center at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the “Bryan McDonough Military Heroes Foundation” (www.militaryheroesfoundation.org) or any of our amazing local Veteran support organizations.
