In Memory of Ruth Johnson


November 3, 1923 - March 25, 2019

Ruth Irene Johnson, 95, of Cumberland died Monday, March 25, 2019 at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was born November 3, 1923 in Cumberland, WI to Edward and Marie (Christensen) Knutson and graduated from Cumberland High School in 1942. In 1943, she married Emmett Gunderson, and they farmed and raised their family in rural Cumberland. He passed away in 1976. On July 18, 1981, she married Charles Johnson, and they lived in Cumberland and spent 17 wonderful winters in Texas. Ruth traveled to every state in the union but Alaska and Hawaii and also traveled extensively throughout Norway and Europe. She was a hardworking and devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed speaking of history and current events with family and friends. Ruth has commented many times in recent years, "I've had a good and full Life." She truly knew and lived through the goodness and tragedies of life.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Johnson of Cumberland; daughters: Sharon Mitchell of Cumberland, Diane Richter of Rice Lake and Ladell (Scott) Ross of Cumberland; grandchildren: Scott Thome, Brad Thome, Janelle Baisden, Andrew Thome, Rita Librande, Amy Midthun and Jody Richter; great grandchildren: Stephanie, Drew, Sara, Hunter, Josh, Autumn, Nathan, Cynthia, Amanda, Bethany, Andrew, Abbey and Brett; 1 great great granddaughter, Ade; sister, Dorothy Amans of Monroe; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Ruth was preceded in death by her son, David Gunderson; siblings: Louise Knutson, Elida Sandve, Clarence Knutson, Arthur Knutson, Mabel Hollanitsch, Raymond Knutson, Gladys Butzler and Lester Knutson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Skinner Funeral Home - Cumberland with Pastor Gary Dorn officiating. Burial will be in Section Ten Cemetery. Pallbearers are Andrew Thome, Brad Thome, Dan Schullo, Scott Ross, Dean Knutson and Duane Kamholz. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland is serving the family.
