In Memory of Russell L. Wold


June 9, 1957 - February 12, 2023

Russell L. Wold, loving Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend, passed away Sunday, February 12th at Mayo/Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.

He was born on June 9th, 1957. He graduated from Barron High School in 1975. After high school, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Colorado until he was diagnosed with diabetes and returned to Wisconsin. He then attended Northwoods Tech College in Rice Lake, and CVTC in Eau Claire where he received a degree in the Culinary Arts as a chef.

He enjoyed cooking and baking with and for his mom and brother, Dale and others. He also enjoyed camping with and traveling to visit family and friends across the country. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, wildlife watching, puzzling and what his family called “snipping” (crafting).

As his diabetes progressed and his health declined, he received a double transplant, (kidney/pancreas) at Mayo in Rochester in 2002.

After further health issues prevented him from remaining at home, he became a permanent resident of Care & Rehab in Barron where he made many friends and enjoyed making decorations for all the holidays for all the residents to enjoy. He also enjoyed puzzling, listening to music and old radio shows as well as harassing his caregivers.

Survivors include sisters, Virginia (Steven) Dachel of Chippewa Falls and Maureen Wold Gunn (Troy D. Hoffman) of Amherst; sister-in-law, Donna (Larry) Wold of Janesville; brothers, Edwin A. Wold of Janesville and Monte L. Wold of Toano, VA; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin H. and Anna (Libersky) Wold; brothers, Larry and Dale; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hamilton Wold; and nephew, Steven G. Dachel.

A funeral service for Russell will be held on Friday, February 24th at 1:30 p.m. at the Rausch and Steel Funeral home at 19 S. 3rd Street in Barron. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Wayside cemetery in Barron.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on Russell's behalf to the “Gift of Life” Transplant House in Rochester, MN, The Dialysis Unit at Mayo/Luther Hospital in Eau Claire or to any Animal Rescue/Shelter of your choice.

Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Barron Care and Rehab, Mayo Northland hospital in Barron and the entire team in the Transplant Unit at Mayo Methodist hospital Rochester who all went above and beyond in showing compassion and comfort to our brother, Russell. Again, thank you all.

Arrangements are being handled by Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron.
