Ruby was born August 2, 1920 at the home of her parents, Ole and Mary Engebretson. She was the middle of five children. Ruby was preceded in death by both her parents, all her siblings (Floyd, Russell, James, and Olive), three sons-in-law (Thomas Forte, Charles Hersant, and Michael Liljenberg), daughter-in-law (Linda Radke), and a set of twin grandchildren. However, she is survived by her 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Ruby attended Orange (a one room schoolhouse) for 1st through 8th grade. She enjoyed nature and outside activities, including skiing to school with her two brothers, which left lasting memories of happy times in her childhood. She also attended 2 yrs at Webster High School and walked 3 1/4 miles to get there each day.

Her family survived the Great Depression of 1929 and foreclosure of their farm by each family member contributing to daily farm responsibilities. The family would also gather around the radio to listen to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “Fireside Chats”, which were words of encouragement on the proposed Recovery Acts. The time of uniting as a family was cemented in Ruby’s mind, to always be frugal and make sure nothing went to waste.

Ruby was married to Elmer Radke on December 24, 1940 and they were blessed with four children: Ronald, Alice, Mary, and JoAnn. She was a devoted wife and mother, with excellent culinary skills, and welcomed guests into their home with grace.

Ruby & Elmer joined the American Legion in 1982 and actively participated in various events. Ruby recently celebrated her 42nd year as an honorary member of Auxiliary Unit 96.

Ruby accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized in 1985. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Webster, where she attended regularly into her late 90’s.

After her husband died in 2005, Ruby filled the void in her life by attending the various events, activities, and achievements of all her extended family members. Ruby contributed her long life and good health to: keeping God first, valuing time with family and good friends, staying active, looking on the bright side of life, and family genes.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM (visitation from 10:00 -11:00 AM) at the First Baptist Church in Webster with Pastor Brian Pardun officiating.
