In Memory of Ronald A. Schafer

February 4, 1933 - June 23, 2023

Ronald A. Schafer, age 90 of St. Croix Falls passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Comforts of Home in St. Croix Falls.

The son of Alfred and Iva (Boucher) Schafer, Ron grew up on a farm near Dresser, Wisconsin with his two sisters, Dolores (Riegel) and Carol (Anderson). A graduate of St. Crois Falls High School he spent 39 years working diligently for Andersen Windows. He worked in the factory, spent many years on the road as a serviceman, returned to St. Croix Falls in 1974 to be a foreman and ended his time at Andersen’s as an assistant superintendent. During his years on the road as a serviceman Ron and his family lived in Watertown, South Dakota and Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

A private pilot Ron enjoyed flying, coffee with guys, and spending time with family and friends. And babies, he loved babies, the smell of their hair and the softness of their skin. He played with his children, built us snow forts and swings, made fudge, and took part in our make-believe games. He gave generously to charities. Ron had a wonderful and creative sense of humor, of which many stories can be told.

A private man of great integrity, he never boasted, and he never complained. He said what he meant and meant what he said. Ron expressed compassion, empathy and understanding in situations where others may have been angry or judgmental. He was a steady man and wise in his ways.

Though we grieve the loss of him in our lives we are intensely grateful to Ron for all he has given us over his 90 years. We like to think he has gone to a place where he can fly!

Ron is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barb; five children, Terri (Joe), Susan (Mark), Michael, Matt (Jenny) and Tom. His 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taylors Falls with Fr. John Drees officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at church on Thursday. Family interment will take place at Greenfield Cemetery near Kellogg.
