Roger H. Panek Sr., age 84, of Grantsburg, passed away on November 25, 2019. 

Roger was born at home on the family farm on June 29, 1935, in Webster. He attended Webster High School and graduated in 1953. From 1951 to 1952, he placed fourth at state in the mile.  

On August 4, 1953, Roger joined the United States Navy And was stationed in San Diego. 

On June 30, 1956, he married Janice Hokanson. When they moved back to WI they first lived in Frederic and in 1960, they bought a home and moved to Grantsburg where they lived from 1960 – 2014 at which time they moved into a duplex a few blocks from their home.

Roger’s hobbies included: fishing, golfing, woodworking, gardening, yard work, crafting, and occasionally shooting pool with the old guys at the senior center. He was also a past Fire Chief of Grantsburg, Village President, Faith Lutheran Church board member and enjoyed being involved with the senior center.  

Preceding Roger in death are his parents, Frank Panek Sr. and Mae Panek; brother, Frank Jr.; sister, Gladys and JoAnne. 

Roger is survived by his wife, Janice Panek; daughter, Cheryl (Andy) Nelson; son, Roger (Christine) Panek Jr..; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great grandsons; sister, Rita (Bob) Hughes; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at 3:00pm (visitation from 1-3pm) at Faith Lutheran Church in Grantsburg. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Grantsburg.
