In Memory of Roger L. Erickson

September 29, 1954 - June 12, 2022

On June 12, 2022, heaven gained another special angel. Roger Lee Erickson passed away surrounded by his family as he lost his life from his battle with cancer.

Roger was born September 29, 1954 to Albert and Ardith (Wuorenma) Erickson in Rice Lake.

He grew up in a loving family and lived in South Carolina, Minnesota and Wisconsin. He graduated from Cameron High School in 1972. After graduation, Roger enlisted in the United States Army where he served 4 years and was stationed in Germany and Hawaii.

After serving his country, Roger’s work career consisted of FG Products, various local contractors doing construction work and Northern Xposure where he was able to travel the United States installing racquet ball courts until his health declined and he could no longer travel. Even through his health issues, Roger continued working for Service Master and most recently, as a janitor at the Cumberland High School. Roger was not a person who could sit idle and do nothing, he had to always be busy.

Roger married the love of his life, Mary Gronski on November 10, 1979. They were blessed with 2 children, whom were his pride and joy. They later divorced but continued to be lifelong friends in raising their children.

Anyone that knew Roger knew he was quite the jokester. He loved telling jokes and stories to make everyone laugh. He also cared deeply about all of his family and friends, of which he had many. Oh, and let us not forget his wonderful “dance” moves when at weddings and other events.

Roger is survived by his two children, Janelle (Gene) Larson and Brian (Cindy) Erickson; four grandsons with whom he was proud of and enjoyed spoiling, Drew Rihn (Alexis VanErp), Nicholas Larson, Tyler Larson and Easton Erickson; step-mother Janice Tahtinen of Almena; siblings, Roxanne Brickhouse of Pelion, SC, Albert Erickson of Cadott, Lori (Steve) Slayton of Rice Lake, Patty (Dan) Krug of Cameron, John Brown of South Carolina and Cherri Brown of South Carolina. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, along with many, many family and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Cindy Brown; paternal grandparents, William and Elizabeth Erickson and maternal grandparents, Andrew and Gena Wuorenma.

Per his request, there will be no formal funeral service, but a gathering of family and friends will be at 5th Street Saloon in Barron on July 23, 2022 starting at 1:00 p.m.

Roger’s final requests are entrusted to Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron.
