In Memory of Roberta K.M. Thompson
Roberta (Berta) Kaye Marie (McLeod) Thompson, age 83 of Arland, passed away January 4, 2025, after a brief stay at Mayo Health Systems in Eau Claire.
She was born February 18, 1941, in Barron, to Robert and Katherine (Schiefelbein) McLeod. She graduated from Barron High School in 1959. After graduation, she and a bunch of girlfriends moved to St Paul, MN where she worked at a bank.
Berta married Glenn Thompson on December 9, 1961, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Barron, and they resided in Arland, all her life. Berta’s earlier years were spent as a stay-at-home mom and babysitting. In her later years she worked at Jerome Foods, Pioneer Nursing Home, Turtle Lake School District and lastly Almena Senior Center. She enjoyed working in food service and being around people. She was an avid sports fan always watching the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers.
Family was always at the top of her list. She enjoyed, and rarely missed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events. Berta was known for her baking and gardening skills, spending time with her husband at classic car shows, fishing in Canada, deer hunting and elk hunting in Colorado. Earlier years, she spent on a women’s bowling league and women’s pool league. Her most prized possession was time spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Berta is survived by her husband of 63 years; daughter, Lynette (Chris) Wisemiller of Boyceville and their children, Travis (Katie) Glaser and their children, Tennlee, Owen and Navvy; Ashley Glaser (Jason Wirth); Lindsay(Scott) Wroblewski and their children, Hattie and Cora; Heather Wisemiller and son, Louis; Eric (Ashlee) Wisemiller and their children, Dane, Isla and Lily; Danielle Schindele; daughter, Wendy Roettger of Chetek and her children, daughter, Kayleen (Jason) Weber and their daughter, Hope; Alyssa (Carl) Nelson and their children, Cayden and Caylee; Kayla (Ed) Percy and their children, Brooke and Easton; daughter, Cheryl Thompson of Ridgeland; daughter, Melanie (Cal) Davis of Turtle Lake and their children, Roy, Paige and Camden; son, Mike (Nichole) Thompson of Barron and their children, Emma and Glendon; sisters, Judy McKinney and Joann Rohn; brother, Jim McLeod, all of the State of Washington; sister-in -law, Marj Thompson of Barron; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Berta is preceded in death by her parents; in-laws; Allard and Anna Thompson; brother-in-law, Don Thompson; sister-in-law, Mary Lee Mcleod; son-in-law, Al Roettger; and great-grandson, Hunter Percy.
There will be a Celebration of Life on January 18 from 1-5 p.m. at the Arland town hall at 653 9th Avenue, Clayton, 54004.
