Robert “Butch” Shafer Age 80, of San Diego, CA, formerly of Cumberland, WI died Thursday, October 12, 2023 in Rice Lake, WI.

He was born on May 10, 1943 in Cumberland, WI to Walter and Florence (Giannone) Shafer. Butch graduated from Cumberland High School in Cumberland in 1961 and then entered the United States Navy and was later Honorably Discharged after serving for 4 years. He worked for NCR in San Diego and Valley View Casino in San Diego for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and going to his home in Mexico.

He is survived by 2 sisters, Peggy (John) Lloyd and JoAnn Millermon; many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Florence Shafer; and a brother-in-law, Harvey Millermon.

A private graveside service will be held at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake is serving the family with the arrangements.
