In Memory of Robert R. Johnson


April 27, 1929 - June 28, 2022

ROBERT RICHARD JOHNSON AGE 93 died on June 28, 2022, of cancer in St Croix Falls, WI.

Robert was born in Detroit Michigan on April 27, 1929.

He moved to Balsam Lake WI with his parents and brother, Paul in 1935. Bob was drafted into the army after graduating from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1951. Bob served in Frankfort, Germany during the Korean War. He married Elsie Anderson in 1955. They moved to Duluth in 1959 and raised a family. Bob worked at Duluth National Bank and retired in 1984. He was a member of American Legion Post 71 and past commander.

Bob moved back to Balsam Lake in 1989 to care for his parents until their deaths. Bob married Mary Berthold in 2007, after many years of friendship. Bob was happiest spending time with his family, playing with his black lab, Angie, and watching the Twins and the Packers. Bob and Mary traveled frequently, visiting friends and new great-grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Ann at age 10 of Cerebral Palsy, his former wife Elsie Johnson, and his parents Richard and Florence Johnson. Bob is survived by his wife, Mary, and brother, Paul (Ann) of Richfield MN, and sons, James of Duluth, and Jeff (Lucy) of St Paul. Jerry (Debbie) of Kansas Daughter, Jill (Dave) Blazevic of Duluth, and Stepdaughter Angela (Jake) RadkeOf Isanti, MN, 20 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren and cousins.

The Funeral Service for Bob will be held on Wednesday, July 6th, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church in Balsam Lake. Bob’s family will greet visitors at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. A lunch and continued fellowship will be held in the church basement following the service.

Bob will be laid to rest at Sunrise Memorial Park in Hermantown, Minnesota on Thursday, July 7th at 11:00 A.M. Military honors will be rendered by the Duluth, Minnesota Military Honor Guard. Casket bearers will be his grandchildren and in-laws.

Memorials are preferred to either Bob’s family or the St. Croix Hospice.

The Kolstad Family Funeral Home of Centuria, Wisconsin has been entrusted with arrangements.
