In Memory of Robert James Matalik
July 11, 1945 - March 21, 2018
Robert J. Matalik, age 72, of Shell Lake, WI passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at his home.
Robert James Matalik was born July 11, 1945 in Superior, WI the son of John and Hattie (Janey) Matalik. He attended school at Northwestern High School in Maple, WI where he graduated in 1963. He went to work for a short time for J.I. Case Tractor Manufacturing in Racine, WI and then joined the U.S. Army where he served during the Vietnam War.
After his time in the service, he returned to Racine where he continued working for J.I. Case as a machine operator and then an inspector. While living in Racine, Bob purchased a cabin on Middle Twin Lake in Trego WI where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and four wheeling. After retirement, Bob made the Trego cabin his permanent home – the location was perfect to satisfy his passion for penny slot machines. The Hertel Turtle was his favorite place! As his health declined, he moved to an apartment in Shell Lake WI, but always kept his cabin. Bob had a love of the outdoors and will be remembered as a genuinely good guy.
Bob is survived by his brother, Jerry (Jeanne) Matalik of Racine, WI; one nephew, Tony Matalik; two nieces, Tracy Matalik, Andrea (Beau) Barker; and good friends Ryan Magana and Heidi Springborn of Webster, WI. He is further survived by a stepson, Steve, and a step-granddaughter.
A graveside service will be held for Robert at a later date, probably in May, at the Lake Nebagamon Cemetery. Family and friends will be notified. Memorials in Bob’s name can be made to one’s favorite veterans’ organization.
