In Memory of Robert G. Ekenstedt


May 26, 1943 - May 2, 2024

Robert "Bob" Gary Ekenstedt, age 80, of Cumberland passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024 at his home. He was born May 26, 1943 in Minneapolis, MN to William and Carmen (Erickson) Ekenstedt.

Bob grew up on a dairy farm in Cumberland, WI. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, MN and his MBA from the University of Minnesota. In his younger years and through college, he showcased his athletic abilities playing baseball and wrestling. Bob served his country as a member of the Army National Guard during his early working years. He had a 38-year career at 3M in St. Paul, MN, retiring as Supply Chain Director.

Bob married Sheila Ernsberger in 1975. Together they would start their family and were blessed with three children.

Bob was a farmer at heart, a mentor to many, and was known for his enduring faith in God. He was a great role model to his children and grandchildren, whom he loved spending time with, always teaching them to put others before themselves.

Bob will be dearly missed by his wife, Sheila (Ernsberger) Ekenstedt; children, David (Rebecca) Ekenstedt, Kari Ekenstedt, and Matthew Ekenstedt; grandchildren, Jonathan, Daniel, and Aria Ekenstedt; brother, William Jr. (Sharon) Ekenstedt; and sister-in-law, Sharon (Paul) Zipf.

He is preceded in death by parents, William and Carmen Ekenstedt; and parents-in-law, Joel and Sylvia Ernsberger.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 10 at Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland from 4 PM - 7 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Spooner Wesleyan Church with Pastor Ron Gormong officiating. Private interment Lakeside Cemetery, Cumberland. Pallbearers are Jim Ekenstedt, Mark Ekenstedt, Steve Ekenstedt, Jonathan Ekenstedt, David Catron, and Jeremy Lepisto. Honorary pallbearers are Daniel Ekenstedt and Aria Ekenstedt.

Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland is serving the family.
