Richard John Hutera Sr. Age 70, of Rice Lake, WI died Monday, April 29, 2019 at his home.

He was born on August 25, 1948 in Minneapolis, MN to John and Angeline (Sklany) Hutera. Richard graduated from the Birchwood High School in 1967 and then attended Minnesota School of Business and UW Barron County Campus. He was married to Oliviann Kubicki on August 2, 1969 in Birchwood. Richard owned and operated the Gate Bar in Birchwood for 43 years. He also worked at Walmart for 13 years in the dairy department, tire and lube and then became the greeter where he was loved by everyone that came into the store. Richard loved his concertina music, polka dancing, he started the Birchwood polka fest, watching western movies and tinkering in the garage.

He is survived by his wife, Oliviann Hutera of Rice Lake; a son, Rick Hutera Jr. of Cameron; a daughter and son-in-law, Angel and John Oliver of Cameron; 7 grandchildren, Courtney, Megan, Ricky, Kristen, Sean, Matthew and Liam; a brother, John “Junior” Hutera of Birchwood; a sister, Barbara Hutera of Birchwood; a sister-in-law, Cheri Hutera of Joliet, IL; many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Angeline Hutera; a brother, Gene Hutera; and a sister, Adeline Hutera.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM Saturday, May 4, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, Father Ed Anderson officiating, with interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Birchwood. Friends may call from 2-8PM Friday at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake and for one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the Church. There will be a Wake Service at 7:30PM Friday at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals.
