June 10, 1935 - February 10, 2023

Richard (Dick) Francis Dahling, aged 87 years, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, February 10th, 2023.

His grandkids describe him as the definition of hard working, honest, ambitious, protective, intelligent, talented well beyond ordinary people, strong but choosing to be gentle every day of his life, and always humble.

Dick was born on June 10th, 1935 in Red Wing, Minnesota, to Henry and Francis Dahling. Dick spent his childhood growing up on the family farm in Redwing. After graduating from Red Wing high school, he met and married the love of his life, Juliette (Julie) Dahling. They wed in 1957 and would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary June 25th, 2022, following Julie's passing, April 22, 2022. Together, they built a home on the homestead where she had been born and raised and where they then lived together until their passing.

Dick was a man of many talents. He served in the Korean War in the American Army.

He returned to the States as a diesel mechanic for the city of Milltown, continuing at Dalles Ford, in St. Croix, Wisconsin. He served as a police officer in 1969 for a decade for the town of Luck. Briefly, he and Julie owned a Dime Store in both Siren and Grantsburg. He eventually returned to the role of diesel mechanic at Polk Burnett Electric where he retired at 65 years.

After retiring, he decided to take up farming, raising some of the best sheep in the country, along with chickens and geese, and prior to this, he even raised a team of sled dogs.
