In Memory of Richard "Doc" A. Severson

August 21, 1943 - December 24, 2024

Richard (Doc) Allen Severson, age 81, of Barron, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024 surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Doc was raised by his grandparents, Esther and Ingwald, surrounded by those he considered to be his brothers and treated him as such.

Doc started working at the age of 15 at Jerome Foods for Art and Curly Severson. He retired in December of 2012, after 51 years. Curly and Art taught him how to work hard for what he wanted in life. Curly, Art and Roy Severson were a huge part in the man that Doc became.

Doc met Linda while in school. According to her, “He was the wild one,” but he won her over anyways. Doc and Linda married on June 20, 1964.

Doc was an avid outdoorsman. He loved going snowmobiling. He took numerous rides with his family and friends. He was a member of the Barron Snow Bears Snowmobile Club and taught his grandchildren how to drive when they were old enough.  Doc was always in the woods making sure the trail he built for the grandkids was clear to ride on. Doc also loved to be in the woods hunting. We were always making lots of fun memories hunting with the Severson Clan. As a young boy, Curly and Art took him under their wing and taught him how to shoot, be safe and have fun with the whole family. He would later pass these skills down to Scott and Brian and then to his grandchildren.

A lot of weekends were spent camping. Doc loved to sit around the campfire with his family and friends, drinking Old Milwaukee and telling his stories. He made many life-long friends while camping and four wheeling.

Doc was very proud of his mechanical skills and vehicles, especially of his trucks. He loved to keep his truck tuned and cleaned up. Most of the time he could be found in the garage or shed tinkering with something. He loved when he would have his “helpers” out there with him so he could teach them to “jimmy rig.”

Doc was cherished and loved by so many. His family and friends will remember his laughter and smile that was so contagious, his sassiness and stubbornness, and the love and care that he showed all of us.

Doc is survived by his wife, Linda of Barron; son, Scott (Leandra) Severson of Clayton; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Allen (Jane) Olson of Cambridge; sister, Mary Ann (Bob) Hensler of Watertown; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian; and a brother, David Olson.

A memorial service for Doc will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church of Arland with Rev. Timothy Vettrus officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 30 at Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday morning. Burial will be at the Independent Cemetery in Arland.
