Dick graduated from Cumberland High School in 1968, where he was the salutatorian of his class, and a multi-year player on the golf team. Dick was an avid traveler and visited over 40 state capitals and most of the Major League ballparks over the years. He cherished his annual traditions of sending out "unique" Christmas cards to friends & family and capturing the spirit of the town festival in his "Rutabaga beer garden photos," which can still be found on display at Nezzy's.
He is survived by his two brothers, Gary (Patty) Thorp of Lakeville, MN, and Roger (Diane) Thorp of Cumberland; and nieces Amanda (Ben) McGibbon of Chanhassen, MN, Jennifer (Ryan) Morrissey of Maple Grove, MN, and Erin Thorp of Denver, CO; and one nephew, Travis (Jenny) Thorp of Cumberland; six grand-nieces/nephews, Elena & Mitchell McGibbon, Scarlett & Haven Morrissey, and Rilo & Eliza Thorp; as well as many close friends.
