In Memory of Richard 'Dick' Dostal

December 26, 1929 - April 1, 2022

Richard "Dick" Dostal, age 92, passed away at his home in peace, surrounded by his loving family singing songs of worship and praise as he was ushered into the presence of his Savior Jesus, in his eternal heavenly home on Friday, April 1, 2022.

Dick was born on December 26, 1929 to Gustav and Ella Dostal, grew up in Haugen on the family farm, being the fifth of seven children.

In 1951 he was drafted into the army during the Korean War, served his country, and was honorably discharged two years later. In 1954 he married the love of his life, Josephine Sirek. Together they built a family of seven children - 5 girls and 2 boys. Richard studied and received his Master Plumbers license and made a life and home for his family. He worked many side jobs after returning home from a full day's work to support his family. He truly knew the meaning of hard work. It also enabled him to send his children through Catholic school, giving them a firm foundation of faith in Jesus Christ. He was an amazing man - he had unending patience, was a gentle giant, the strong silent type. He enjoyed working with his hands in his woodshop, building treasures for his children, and toys for his grandchildren including dollhouses, baby doll carriages, Christmas ornaments, rocking chairs for his grandchildren, jewelry boxes for graduation gifts, and much more. He was frugal and loved to fix things, help his children maintain their houses and assist with any building concerns they had. He had giant gardens and grew raspberries, strawberries, tomatoes, sweet corn, apples, and the best potatoes of all kinds. Besides his children and grandchildren, his passion was to fish for hours with his sons, daughters, and grandkids, even when nothing was biting. He often fished with his friend Dick Powers, enjoying sunny days in the boat fishing, enjoying the simple life and sharing corny jokes that we all loved. He loved deer hunting with his sons, son-in-law and grandsons every year. He fought a courageous battle with cancer twice and persevered through it as an optimist and always was hopeful he would get through.

Richard is survived by his seven children, Lori (Dave) Reed of Clear Lake; Lisa (Don) Brungardt of Chippewa Falls; Julie (Don) Ash of Waukon, Iowa; Jeff (Michele) Dostal of Elk Mound; Marjorie Peterson (his extra-special caregiver), MaryBeth (Dave) Robach of Rice Lake, and Matt (Wendy) Dostal of Rice Lake; 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Carolyn) Dostal of Cameron.

He was preceded in death by his precious wife Josephine 23 years ago; a son-in-law, Lynn Peterson; his parents, Gustav and Ella Dostal; his brothers, Wilfred, Gussie, Jerry; and his sisters, Naomi Chermack and Geneva Weber.

He will be dearly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dobie, WI, Father Ed Anderson officiating, with interment in the Church Cemetery where Military Rites will be accorded him by the Rice Lake Veteran Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 4-7PM Friday at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake and for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
