In Memory of Raymond Swanson


September 1, 1927 - December 28, 2020

Raymond Swanson, 93, passed away on Dec. 28th surrounded by family at his home in Solon Springs, WI.

Ray was born Sept. 1st, 1927 in Superior, WI to Gust and Marie {Johnson} Swanson.

He grew up in Superior and graduated from East High School and UW-Superior. Ray served his country as a Navy Seabee at the end of WWll. He married Marvel Banks in 1948. They lived in Solon Springs where he taught elementary grades and music. Ray passed on his love of music to many of his students. He left teaching to take over Swansons’ Cabins where his dream of starting a campground was realized. He operated the Motel and Campground until his retirement in 1998. Ray was a member of Mission Covenant Church in Poplar WI. He loved the Lord Jesus and served Him well. He was blessed with a wonderful singing voice and throughout his life shared his talent with his family, church and community. Ray enjoyed golfing, reading, traveling, running errands and his daily trips to The Little Gift House for coffee. His easy-going personality, sense of humor and ability to make you feel special will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents Ray was preceded in death by his brother Warren, his sister Virginia Erickson and three granddaughters; Alissa, Elise and Jessica.  Ray is survived by his wife Marvel, his four children, Linda {John} Rindo, Solon; Janet {Charles} Brown, Solon; Vicki {Hans} Martens, Andover, MN and Gary {Jean} Swanson, Solon; 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at the Mission Covenant Church {5161 S. County Road P.} in Poplar, WI. 54864 on Saturday, January 16th at 11 o’clock. The service will also be streamed on the Mission Covenant Website. A luncheon will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers a memorial could be made to Mission Covenant Church.
