In Memory of Raymond Spieler
July 4, 1922 - December 12, 2016
Raymond Charles Spieler, 94, a longtime resident of Minong, WI, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 at Maple Ridge Care Center in Spooner, WI. with his family at his side.
He was born on July 4, 1922 in Cook, Indiana to Henry and Emma (Brickman) Spieler.
Ray was a decorated WWII Veteran and P.O.W. While serving in the U.S. Army, he was awarded with the bronze star and two purple hearts for injuries received in combat. In 2014 he proudly received the quilt of valor. After the service he worked on the Great Lakes in shipping.
In 1958 Ray met the love of his life Helen (Hoegger) Spieler. They were married September 26th of that year and resided in Wascott, WI.
Ray was a man who loved life and his family. He enjoyed his grandchildren, bowling, fishing, long drives, and socializing with family and friends. To know him was to love him. He was a kind, gentle man with a big heart. He will be sadly missed and always loved.
Ray is survived by three sons and one daughter, William (Sharon) Wright of Phoenix, AZ; Judy (Richard) Berg of Holman, WI; Ralph (Linda) Wright of La Crosse, WI; Daniel (Melissa) Spieler of Minong, WI.; four grandchildren Eric, Dustin, Amanda, Brian, and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen (Hoegger) Spieler; five brothers Joseph Spieler, Edward Spieler, Elmer Spieler, Emil Spieler, Robert Spieler, Henry Spieler; one sister Cecelia Kruger; two grandsons Brad Berg and Blaine Wright.
The family would like to thank Maple Ridge Care Center for the wonderful care they provided with special thanks to Elijah Simeth, Becca Henning, and Jana Bronson.
A time of remembrance and celebration of Rays life will be will be held Monday, December 19, 2016 at the River Church beginning at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. service with Rev. Ben Kidder officiating. Burial will be in the spring with a small graveside service at the Wascott Cemetery.
