In Memory of Raymond D. Piller
Raymond “Ray” Dennis Piller, age 82, passed away on November 8, 2024, in Medford, WI.
Born in Medford, WI, on April 26, 1942, Ray was always full of life: He kept busy, was social, and loved visiting with friends and family. He was also known for his quick wit and endless supply of jokes.
After attending school, Ray began his career in the food and beverage industry, where his social nature was tailor-made. He took great pride in his work and eventually bought a restaurant, successfully building it up before selling it. He also catered many events while building good relationships with customers from all over, most of which became great friends.
Ray married Arlys Truman in Faribault, MN, on October 28, 1974. With his wife by his side, they made a significant mark on the food industry. They established or transformed a series of restaurants and supper clubs, including County Point, House of Piller's, Voyager Village, McKenzie Landing, Lake Wissota Supper Club, Twin Oaks, and Club 70.
Ray’s love for the Northwoods began as he spent summers at their cabin on Big Bear Lake in Danbury, WI, when his sons were growing up. He also enjoyed fishing on Rainy Lake in the summer and pheasant hunting in North Dakota with Arlys and the boys every fall. Deer and grouse hunting were just two more of his favorite pastimes.
Ray is survived by his three sons, Todd Piller of Lebanon, OR; Jeff (Mary) Piller of Spooner, WI; Greg (Wendi) Piller of Kenyon, MN; his sister, Sheryl Brandner; his grandchildren, Josh Rhy, Jake (Marti) Piller, Lyndsey (Crae) Riese, Brock (Lauren) Piller, Dustin (Kirsten) Behrens, Brooke (CJ) Damaske, Mikayla (Ethan) Quade, Karlee (Grant) Mindt, Chenoa (Seth) Grove, Stevie Piller, Annalie Piller, Addison Truman, Ava Truman, and 24 great- grandchildren.
Ray is preceded in death by his wife, Arlys Piller; his stepsons, Steven Truman and Michael Truman; his parents, Arthur and Linda Piller; and his siblings, Diane, Cynthia, and Wayne.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Spooner. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the service commences. Reverend Brent Berkesch will officiate. A luncheon will follow.
