In Memory of Phyllis E. Istel

June 21, 1937 - May 9, 2022

Phyllis Elaine Istel (nee Bergman), 84, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2022, at the Frederic Nursing and Rehab Center, in Frederic WI.

Phyllis was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She chose to join the Catholic Church at an early age. Her devotion and faith to God was very important throughout her life. Her love story with her husband Don, was just shy of 67 years. They met at a football game in Turtle Lake, WI, and were together ever since. Phyllis and Don were always known for throwing a great party and no one could match the spread Phyllis could lay out even if you had just happened to stop by for coffee. Phyllis so loved a good word game, dice, crossword puzzles and card games with her family and friends and would challenge anyone to beat her at Boggle. The Game Show network and home shopping channels were a favorite of hers. The family will also miss her famous “Toffee Bars” featured at every family event and holiday and will be an honored tradition to be continued by her family.

Preceded in death by her Father Andrew Bergman, Mother Angeline Anderson, son-in-law Alan Larkin and sisters Mary Louise Schissel and Shirley Naessen.

She is survived by her loving husband Donald Sr., their children; son Donald Istel Jr. and wife Lorry (Clear Lake WI) daughter Luanne Wogstad and husband Kurt (Eagan MN), daughter Mary Atchley and husband Stan (Savannah GA), daughter Karen Larkin (Panama City FL). Grandchildren, Donald Istel III and wife Krisha (Rockwall TX), Chad Istel (North St. Paul MN), Rebecca Peine and husband Joshua (Lindstrom MN), Laura Istel (David McCullough) (New Richmond WI), Brian Wogstad (Eagan MN), Alexis Grantham and husband Wes (Bluffton SC), Arielle Zilge (NYC, NY), Edward Zilge Jr. (Katie Holden) (Cary NC) and Jessica Messing (Panama City FL). Great-Grandchildren; Germain Jackson, Donald Istel IV, Brandon Peine, Isabella Wogstad, Dylan Wogstad, Azalea Grantham, and Magnolia Grantham.

Also survived by brother Neil Bergman Sr., many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She will be lovingly missed… her family and friends will be extremely lucky knowing they have a special guardian angel to look over them.

A Celebration of Life is being considered for a future date.
