In Memory of Peggy Johnson
Peggy passed away peacefully at Regions Hospital on Monday, October 5, 2020 with her family by her side. She was born July 2, 1937 to Leonard and Eleanor Handlos in Centuria, WI.
She graduated from Centuria High School in 1955, valedictorian of her class. She then attended UW Stout in Menomonie, WI and graduated with a degree in Home Economic Education. While at UW Stout she met Loren Johnson, the love of her life. They were married on August 15, 1959. Peggy and Loren moved to Racine, WI where she taught Home Economics at Washington Jr. High School. They also lived in Olympia, WA for about one year and returned to their home in Racine until 1965. They then moved to Peggy’s childhood family farm where they have resided since. She enjoyed their cabin on Balsam Lake since 1991 during the warmer months.
Peggy was active with many things in her community including 4-H, Centuria Women’s Club, Ladies aid at St. John’s Church and local blood banks; she was a founder of the Unity Booster Club and bowled for many years. She loved to cook large meals for family and friends and it was always amazing. Her garden was full of good things to eat and she was also an expert seamstress and loved to sew.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Loren Johnson; sons, Tony (Heidi) Johnson, Daniel (April) Johnson, Scott (Bobbi) Johnson; daughters, Tara (Brandon) Johnson and Tanya (Eldon) Tendrup; sixteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and many other loving family and friends.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Eleanor Handlos; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald (Theresa) Handlos.
The Johnson family will greet visitors at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Centuria on Saturday, October 10, 2020 from 9:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. At 11:00 A.M. there will be a Memorial Service for family and close friends. She will be laid to rest at St. John’s Cemetery following the service. The Johnson family invites their guest to join them at their lake home following the cemetery service for snacks and refreshments. 1805 110th Street, Balsam Lake, WI 54810.
A mask/facial covering is required to enter the church for visitation and service. Please practice the guidelines for social distancing at the church.
The Kolstad Family Funeral Home of Centuria has been entrusted with arrangements.
