In Memory of Orlando A. Simon


March 11, 1942 - September 24, 2022

Orlando A. Simon of Luck, WI, age 80, passed away peacefully at Frederic Nursing and Rehab after a short stay on September 24th, 2022.

Orlando was born March 11th, 1942 in Grantsburg, WI, the youngest of 15 children.

Orlando was an avid outdoors person who enjoyed hunting, fishing and cutting firewood. When not hunting, he was tending his garden for farmer’s markets in the surrounding areas. He was a Black Powder instructor, agate hunter, he gained his Master Exhibitor Certificate with the American Poultry Association in less than 1 year showing his show quality chickens and heritage turkeys earning many trophies and awards.

Orlando was born and raised in the Crex Meadows in Grantsburg. Orlando loved the outdoors and the wildlife that could be found there. He attended Freya School and then Grantsburg School where he graduated. In his youth he helped on the family farm, would cut pulp wood and worked at the pickle factory. During the summer he helped the family pick the abundant crop of wild blueberries. His family then moved to Luck, WI in the 1960’s and farmed for a short while. Orlando started working for McNally’s for a few years and then started his carpentry work. After a few years his brother, Lonnie joined him and they became S&S Builders where they did many construction projects from repairs to full house builds, they later specialized in Pole Building Construction. They were S&S Builders for the next 50 years. Orlando had married and had 4 children. He remarried in February 22, 2002 to JoAnn Johnson for the last 20 wonderful years.

Preceded in death are his parents, James and Elizabeth (Raddohl) Simon; brothers, Milo, Lorenzo, David, Frank, Jim, Don, Elton, Ernie, Jordan and Lonnie Simon; sisters, Charlotte Croxton and Elvina Hanson.

Orlando is survived by his wife, JoAnn (Johnson) Simon; sisters, Berdella Hall and Barb Nelson (Don); children, Jen Simon, Chad (Rachael) Simon, Orlando B. (Chandra) Simon, and Teresa Simon; grandsons, Carter, Carson, Isaiah, Jackson and granddaughter, Cora Simon; many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews; many friends and neighbors.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 8th, 2022 at the Siren Covenant Church in Siren, WI. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 pm with a memorial service at 3:00 pm with a lunch to follow services.

Arrangements are entrusted to Rowe Funeral Home in Luck and the Northwest Wisconsin Cremation Center in Milltown.
