George Hanson, age 89, a resident of Spooner, died on Monday, February 20, 2017, at his home.

George was born on June 16, 1927, in Iron River, Wisconsin to parents Emil and Jennie Hanson.  He attended school in Iron River and then was drafted and served 39 months in the U.S. Air Force.  George was united in marriage to Mary Pero in Iron River on June 9, 1951.  George worked for the Wisconsin DNR and retired in 1990.  George volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader and was a Hunter's Education Instructor for over 49 years.  He loved his family, and also loved to hunt and fish. 

George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary, children: Karen (David) Hopp of Spooner, Kathryn (Rodney) Lindemann of Burlington, WI, David Hanson of Vesper, WI, 6 grandchildren Theresa (Derek) Fox, Anna (Craig) Deutsch, Sara (Eric) Spelbring, Jacob Lindemann, Jarod Lindemann, and Ryan Lindemann, 4 great grandchildren Mya and Mason Deutsch and Lena and Quinn Fox, and brother Eugene Hanson of Duluth, MN. 

George is preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, and 1 brother.

A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Spooner Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spooner with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at the Iron River Cemetery in Iron River, Wisconsin.  Casket bearers will be his grandchildren, Theresa Fox, Anna Deutsch, Sara Spelbring, Jacob Lindemann, Jarod Lindemann, and Ryan Lindemann .
