In Memory of Norman Larson


March 3, 1932 - July 8, 2019

Norman E. Larson, age 87, of Barron, passed away Monday, July 8, 2019 at his home.

He was born March 3, 1932 at Rice Lake to Eric and Esther (Borg) Larson.  Norman graduated from Barron High School in 1950 and attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where he earned his teaching degree.  He taught music in Cameron, math at the University of Minnesota, and then math and computer science at Stevens Point Area Senior High.  After retiring from teaching, he returned to farming on the family farm. 

Norman served in the US Army, stationed in Japan during the Korean War.  He was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church of Arland, where he was the organist since he was 16 years old. 

Norman is survived by sisters, Sharon Bringman of Barron and Ilene (David Keeler) Carroll of Birchwood; a special nephew, Barry (Cheryl) Near, who worked on the farm with Norman for several years and was his primary caregiver.  He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Muriel Sain; nephew, Dale Bader; and a great-nephew, Michael Near.

A memorial service for Norman Larson will be held on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at First Lutheran Church of Arland with Rev. Timothy Vettrus officiating.  Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday morning.

Arrangements are being handled by Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron.
