In Memory of Norman D. Randby

May 2, 1933 - December 12, 2016

Norman D. Randby, 83, of  Spooner , died on December 12, 2016 at Maple Ridge Care Center in Spooner, Wisconsin.  Norm was born on May 2, 1933, along with his twin sister Norma, in Odin Township in Watonwan County, Minnesota to parents Marcus and Agnes Randby.

Norm grew up a farm boy.  The family worshipped at Rosendale Lutheran Church where he was confirmed.  Norm always considered himself from Madelia even though he graduated from Truman High School.  In 1953 Norm was drafted into the US Army and was deployed to Korea until 1955.  Norm met Karen Ruther after returning home and they eloped to Algona, Iowa.  For three years Norm was employed on Ben Edward’s mink farm in rural Mankato.  In 1959 Norm moved with his family to rural Shell Lake, Wisconsin to a dairy farm.  Without the help of parents it wouldn’t have been possible.  Wonderful neighbors were always there when needed.  After 20 years Norm sold out and moved to neighboring property.  He was then employed by Spooner School System as a custodian.  In 1997 he retired and lived in Spooner.

Norm served on the Bashaw Town Board for a few years.  He also served on the Trinity Lutheran Church Council for seven years.  His lifelong faith carried him through good times and bad.

Survivors include wife Karen, daughters Christine (Joe) Pryor and Missy (Greg) Gauger, and grandchildren Megan (Erik) Haugen, John Lindberg, Paul Lindberg, Kyle Gauger, and Samantha (Derick) Nash, brother Dennis (Pat) Randby, sisters Norma Randby and Delores Randby,

and Cox family nieces and nephews.

Norm was preceded in death by his parents, infant son David Mark, sister Mercedes and husband Lloyd Cox, daughter Linnea Lindberg, and grandson Adam Cohan.
