In Memory of Nick J. Sukow

December 16, 1966 - August 9, 2022

Nick Sukow, son, brother, uncle, friend, has left us behind. He transcended while surrounded by family. We could never mourn such an amazing man. He would hate any crying done in his name. He would want us to be strong, even though our hearts are heavy.

Nick’s story starts on 12/16/1966, the eldest born to Harvey (Bud) Sukow and Jean Hose in Japan, while his father was in the U.S. Army. Loved ones that will miss Nick until they meet again are his mother, Jean; father, Bud (Marilyn); brother, Jason (Kris) Sukow; sister, Kate (Mitchell) Zimberg; nephews, Cole, Ryan and Wade Sukow; nieces, Sarah and Rachel Zimberg; god-mother and aunt, Sue Perry; as well as many friends, cousins and step-families.

He graduated from Barron High School in 1985. Nick’s hobbies included his car restorations, being on his computer, giving speeches, preparing for his annual August party, and poker.

Even though a car accident left him paralyzed as a ventilator quadriplegic on August 9, 1989, he stayed in touch weekly with two of his high school friends, Dave Matthys and Lee Hogan. His U.S. Army buddies were always a phone call away. Eugene, Wayne, Gilbert and Todd would travel from each of their states annually in August for reunions.

He despised phonies, day light savings time and takers. Loved his past as a diesel mechanic in the Army, anything Dodge, the Packers, and his cat, Diesel.

Nick did not go quietly in the night but giving the hospital staff a run for their money. Entering St. Mary’s on August 5th, he always wanted to leave an impression. He held on until his anniversary date of August 9th, after 33 years.

He is starting his next adventure, running down the racetrack, taking deep breaths, preparing pats for the rest of us to follow leaving his wheelchair and ventilator behind.
