In Memory of Nancy A. Vought

April 25, 1942 - December 21, 2023

Christmas was her favorite time of year. It was a time full of traditions-church, family, decorating, gifts, and food!

On December 21st, 2023, as we began to celebrate the birth of Jesus this year, Nancy Ann Vought, age 81, went to meet Him, peacefully and surrounded by family.

She was born Nancy Ann Stone on April 25th, 1942 to Raymond and Anna (Sole) Stone at their farmhouse near La Farge, Wisconsin.

After attending a one room country school, she attended high school in “the city.” Growing up, music was an important part of her life. She was an accomplished pianist and accordion player. She played clarinet in the band and marching band, and later became a cheerleader. Nancy made sure her children all had the opportunity to play instruments as well.

Nancy was a devoted Christian who put God first. She was active in church activities throughout her life. Nancy loved her work with the United Methodist Women in Barron, whom she served as president. She truly enjoyed fellowship with the other Christian women in their various charitable activities. It was her involvement in church that led her to attend a conference in the summer of 1959, where she met her soul mate, Jim Vought. They were married on September 3rd, 1960. It’s hard to imagine Nancy without Jim, and their life together revolved around their 5 children. Between their sports and music activities, Nancy spent 8 seasons as the coach of the Barron Honey Bears Pom Pom team, even traveling to California for national competition. During that time, she was always the office manager for Jim’s Floor Service, but also worked with Springer Optical, owned and operated Nielsen’s Restaurant in Chetek, and retired from the Marshfield Clinic in Rice Lake after 28 1⁄2 years. As her family grew to include 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, Nancy continued to attend their concerts, plays and sporting events.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving wife and mother, Nancy also enjoyed sewing, quilting, counted cross stitch, and cooking. She loved to travel, and took many trips including to Florida, Branson, The Black Hills and Grand Canyon, and the Caribbean.

Nancy cherished relationships with her Vought and Stone families, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her friends from church and her friends met at Camp Brigadoon in Cumberland. Nancy and Jim spent many evenings around the campfire with their “camper friends” sharing stories, laughs and home-baked treats.

She is survived by her children, Kevin (Robin), Brenda (Scott Visger), Tim, Darin, and Nathan; her grandchildren, Kassandra, Mathew, Nicole, James (Jayme), Corissa (Cameron), Zachary, Cody (Kala), and Kolton; 10 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Jim (Karen) Stone, Ron (Linda) Stone, Gary (Rosemary) Stone; sister, Shirley (Jim Pagel) Glaser; and all the friends who will miss her bright smile, the sparkle in her eyes, and her caring and generous soul.

Nancy joins her mother, Anna Sole; her father, Raymond Stone; and her precious husband, James in Heaven.

The Celebration of Life for Nancy Vought will be held on Saturday, January 6th at 11:30 at the Barron United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the church. A brief service of interment will then be held at Wayside Cemetery in Barron. A luncheon at the church will follow the burial.

Nancy and her family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Woodstone Senior Living and the Marshfield Medical Center Hospice.

Memorials can be made in Nancy’s name to the UMW of the First United Methodist Church of Barron.

Arrangements are being handled by Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron.
