In Memory of Morris E. Nicholson III

September 1, 1944 - November 23, 2023

Morris (Morrie) Emmons Nicholson III, age 79 passed away peacefully on November 23rd, 2023 in Stillwater, MN.

Morrie was born in Springfield, MA on September 1st, 1944, to Morris (II) and Norma Nicholson.

Following several moves, Morrie arrived in Falcon Heights, MN. He attended Alexander Ramsey High School in Roseville, MN. He became a father to son Michael Edward Nicholson in 1964. He married Lee Ann (Bassett) Nicholson on December 30th, 1967 in Rapid City, South Dakota. He and Lee became parents to two daughters, Lisa Marie in 1968 and Barbara Ann in 1970. They lived briefly in South St. Paul, MN before settling into their Cottage Grove home for more than 30 years. During this time, he worked at a Standard Oil station as a mechanic and dreamed of owning his own auto shop. He did achieve his dream briefly when he co-owned an auto body shop. He primarily worked for United Electric as a salesman for forty years before retiring in 2004. Within a month of retiring, he and Lee moved to Amery, Wisconsin.

During his life, he enjoyed many activities such as: spending time with family, traveling, camping, hunting, attending church, fishing, golfing, hiking, softball, bowling, riding bicycle, boating, four-wheeling, floating in his pool, wood working, collecting maple syrup, reading, coffee club, karaoke, cheering on the Twins/Vikings, watching MacGyver and collecting baseball memorabilia. He loved to stay busy and entertained many with his gift of gab, infectious humor and quick wit.

He lived his life fully until 2013 when he sustained a spinal cord injury limiting his abilities. Despite his circumstances, he continued to find joy spending time with family and friends. He was able to stay home until 2021 before he moved to Golden Age Manor in Amery WI.

The family of Morrie would like to extend our utmost gratitude to the many people who cared for him daily. By the grace of God, we KNOW he has joined Lee and is made whole again resting in the arms of Jesus until we meet again.

Morrie is survived by his son Michael (Kim) Nicholson, daughters Lisa (Royce) Opsal, Barbara (Shawn) Girgen, brothers Robert (Sharon) Nicholson and Richard Nicholson, grandchildren Breann Nicholson, Brandy Nicholson, Nick (Missy) Gresafe, Garrett Johnson, Olivia Johnson, Ryan (Margo) Girgen, Dylan Girgen, Courtney (fiancé Ryan) Opsal, Tyler (fiancé Faith) Opsal, great-grandchildren Ryan (fiancé Cianna), Anthony, Giovanni, Michael, Hannah, James, Alaiya, Hudson, Taylor, great-great grandson Angelo as well as his beloved nieces and nephews, extended family and many special life-long friends.
