In Memory of Mildred Whetsel

Mildred Whetsel Age 94, of Rice Lake, WI, died Monday, December 4, 2023 in Eau Claire, WI.

She was born on November 5, 1929 in Rice Lake to Enoch and Edna (Larsen) Alnes.

Mildred graduated from Rice Lake High School 1947 and then she attended nursing school. She was married to Ivan Whetsel on February 14, 1951 in Minneapolis, MN. Mildred was a nurse's aide in nursing homes, hospitals and in home care. She loved gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting, baking, and playing cribbage. Mildred enjoyed traveling and ancestry. She made wedding cakes, wedding dresses and quilts for family members and friends. Mildred was very active in the Stanfold Lutheran Church. She was multi-talented and enjoyed being with her family and her friends.

She is survived by her children, Debra Antony, Teresa (Bernie) Olejniczak, Sheila Tate, Ivan E. Whetsel Jr., Kathleen (Sam) Grenquist, Kristine (Jamey) Johnson, Jesse Whetsel and Gene (Yang) Whetsel; 19 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Whetsel Sr., her parents, Enoch and Edna Alnes; a sister, Myra Petersen; 2 sons-in-law, Allen Antony and Bruce Tate; and daughter-in-law, Peggy Whetsel.

A private family service will be held, with a public celebration of her life will be held in the spring 2024. Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI is serving and assisting the family with the arrangements.
