Michael Richard Carey, age 62, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, November 5, 2023 at his home in Grantsburg Wis. He was born on December 18, 1960 in St. Paul MN. to parents Bill and Pat (Simonson) Carey. Mikes earliest years were spent in St. Paul until he was in third grade at which time, he moved to Little Wood Lake in Grantsburg Wis.

Mike was a hard worker during his working years driving truck and for a time working in the family business. He was also a master at small engine repair and enjoyed fixing what he could for others. His heart was for his family, friends and his animals. After his dad passed away in November of 1997 there wasn’t a day went by that he didn’t contact his mom via phone or visit. Some days 2-3 times a day. Mike loved life on his farm. He loved his animals and nature. He took great care of his many horses, cows, cats and other animals that entered his farm.

Mike enjoyed fishing and hunting, always looking forward to getting out to the shack with family and friends where he would kick back before, after and sometimes during the hunt. Always during family gatherings Mike would be surrounded by his nieces, nephews and others as they all wanted to hear what Uncle Mike had to say with his great story telling which on occasion could be very colorful. Mike was a man of faith praying every day to our God Who created him. He will be missed with great sadness by his family and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Pat Carey; brother, Billy Carey; nephews, Michael Lindquist Jr. and Rick Carey; great nephew, Cayden Hanson; great niece, Deja Steele; grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mike is survived by his sisters; Cookie (Jerry) Klein, Candie (Mike) Carey, Tammy (Mike) Lindquist, Laurie (friend Dan) Sjodin; brother, Randy (Heidi) Carey; 13 nieces and nephews; 25 great nieces and nephews; 1 great-great nephew; Aunt, Char Simonson; and many cousins.

The memorial service for Mike will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 1:00 Pm (visitation from 12:00 – 1:00 PM) at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Grantsburg.

Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home.
