In Memory of Michael Houy


June 6, 1952 - April 29, 2021

Michael D. Houy, 68, of Birchwood, WI (formerly of Loves Park, IL) passed away Thursday April 29, 2021 at his residence with family by his side.

Michael was born in Rockford on June 6, 1952, son of Howard and Marian (Budden) Houy.

He married Geraldine “Gerri” (McKee) Kittner on November 11, 2000 in Jamaica. Michael worked for Wirsho Company of Apple Valley, MN as a Finance and Administration Manager and for ADP in Chicago and Dallas. He was self-employed and owned Highland Midwest Communications and Executive Accounting. Michael enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He was a member of the Medallion Rottweiler Dog Club, serving as treasure for 12 years; putting many American Kennel Club titles on his dog “Morgen”, his true companion. He also loved to travel and publish poetry. He was on the board of directors for the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce and Chairman for the March of Dimes “Jail and Bail”. He was President of Birchwood, WI Senior Center and was a Birchwood Advisory Committee member for North Lakes Community Clinic.

Michael is survived by his wife Gerri; son Brian Houy of PA; daughter Lisa of TX; step-daughter Carolyn (Cliff) Carr of TN; grandson Colton Carr of TN; step-son Jeff Kittner II of IL.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, brother Duane, sister Donna and sister-in-law Jackie Haynes.

Michael was always giving of his self and his talents, he loved nature and living on the lake. He loved his family and friends, he had a wonderful sense of humor. His love of the Northwood’s and living his dream on the lake with his loving wife Gerri and faithful companion “Morgen”.

Memorials are suggest to: Birchwood Four Corners Emergency Services District; P.O.Box 417; Birchwood, WI 54817. Visitation for Michael will be Friday, May 7, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park, IL from 9-10AM followed by a Service to Celebrate Michael’s life at 10AM, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
